Nueva cirugía láser permite convertir a los ojos marrones en azules

Laguna Beach doctor Gregg Homer has developed a new surgery technique that can turn brown eyes blue. Even people with brown eyes have blue eyes underneath. The procedure uses lasers to destroy the cells producing the brown color. The brown color slowly fades in the weeks following the surgery leaving just the person with blue eyes.

Not everyone thinks the procedure is safe. Dr. Robert Cykiert, associate professor of ophthalmology at NYU Langone Medical Center, told ABCNews.com that the procedure could cause glaucoma. He says, "When you burn the brown pigment away with a laser, the debris that is created in the front of the eye - think of it as ashes resulting from burning anything - is likely to clog up the microscopic channels in the front of the eye, known as trabecular meshwork."
